Kemang | South Jakarta | Indonesia

Last weekend, our search for the perfect costume took us off the beaten path in Kemang. Walking away from the main road felt more like authentic Indonesia than the traffic jams and shopping malls that we are constantly surrounded by in much of the rest of Jakarta. The distinct sights of food carts and tambal ban, bajai and fruit trucks, though shocking upon arrival, become commonplace after living here for even a short while. As I am now in the home stretch of my time in Indonesia, I keep having to remind myself that in the not-so-distant future, these sights, sounds (and even smells) that have become home to me for the past three years, will become a mere memory.

Splendor Costumes | Kemang | Indonesia

With Book Week's impending approach at school, we went into Kemang in search of the perfect book character costumes. Our first stop was Splendor Costumes. Entering with lower than low expectations, I was immediately impressed. Though it is all rental, which makes it difficult to procure if you live out of the area, the variety of items and sizes was vast and well worth a visit if you have something particular in mind!

School | Sea World

Our current Unit of Inquiry centers around water. To supplement this unit, we all piled in a bus and drove across Jakarta in rush hour to get to Sea World! Not quite the home of Shamu that you probably have in mind, Jakarta's Sea World is a large, cavernous cluster of aquariums that are lit by blacklight.
